Mother and Calf

In a kind of eerie coincidence during the photoshoot of the Gojira, this mother and calf crossed paths with the same boat that might save it’s life in a few weeks time in Antarctica. Taken about 3km off Rottnest with the Canon 800mm lens.

This time last year the “Adi Gil” sank after a collision with Japanese whalers in Antarctic waters, the “Gojira” (Japanese for Godzila) is the replacement for the “Adi Gil” and below are some photos taken yesterday off Rottnest Island as they headed for Antarctica again.

Only managed to get a handful of still’s from the weekend on the way over and even less on the way back as the seabreeze was in and it was near on impossible to stand up let alone take any photos – the bottom photo was on the way back, this is Chris Box testing out his new boat!

Run to Rottnest

I recieved a call from Paul of www.pokerrunsaustralia.com.au at about 7am yesterday morning saying how perfect it was on the ocean and wanting to know if I wanted to spend the day at Rottnest, and I had 1 hour to get to fishing boat harbour in Fremantle! Shot mostly video using the new Canon 7D and will have some stills up tomorrow but really wanted to try out the 7D first, shooting from the back of a boat was near on impossible but at least managed to get a few second’s of footage. Well, here’s the video and the rest of the story tomorrow with the stills.

Surf Rescue Helicopter at Rottnest

The surf rescue helicopter was over at Rottnest Island at the same time we were last weekend so we managed to get some shot’s as it was going past, it’s alway’s diffilcult shooting air to air but this time it was lined up with the background perfectly in each shot. This rescue helicopter which provides services for Surf Lifesaving W.A. is one of the many helicopters run and maintained by www.heliwest.com.au at Jandakot in Perth.

Rottnest Express Photoshoot

Yesterday was the Rottnest Express photoshoot, starting at Fremantle then heading out to Rottnest and photographing/filming various vessel’s and site’s. The photo’s below are of the Eco Express which does tour’s of Rottnest visiting all the small bay’s and getting up close to the wildlife of Rottnest.

We’ve done a few shoot’s at Rottnest but I’ve never seen as much wildlife as on this trip, there were so many dolphin’s, seals and whale’s that everywhere we looked there was something jumping out of the water! Cinematagropher Leighton De Barros came along and filmed heap’s of action as well so will post the link to the footage sometime soon. Thank’s to Leighton for filming all this, Jasmine from Rottnest Express for getting to run this smoothly and Ash (pilot) from Heliwest for coming in on his day off! Should have some more image’s up over the next few day’s.
